Musk's Robo-Taxi is coming. Is China’s X-By-Wire technology up for it?

02-07-2022

"We are going to launch a specialized Robo-Taxi, which is highly optimized for autonomous driving, with no steering wheels or pedals.

CEO Musk claimed during Tesla's first-quarter earnings call.

Autonomous driving

No more steering wheels or pedals!

Different from other brands, you won’t see any steering wheels or pedals on Musk’s Robo-Taxi. By adopted L5 X-By-Wire technology, Musk’s Robo-Taxi can drive automatically, separating itself from human drivers.

Since there is no need to consider driver’s hand feeling, compared to other autonomous driving levels, L5 Steer-By-Wire technology reduces the road sense simulation functions.

It means that the leading X-By-Wire provider in China can provide steering services for Musk’s Robo-Taxi.

DECO

DECO has been deeply engaged in Chassis-By-Wire technology since 2011, having more than 20 kinds of R&D experience of Steer-By-Wire system from A0 class to C class passenger vehicles.

DECO owns redundant algorithm for L4 intelligent driving SBW system and intelligent hardware platform for L2-L4 SBW system. Four core technologies possessed by DECO are hardware, algorithm, sensor and motor. Vehicle-level Steer-By-Wire system of DECO has been applied in low-speed scenarios and commercial vehicles.

EPS

Technically, DECO is fully prepared for the arrival of Robo-Taxi.

Is it possible for the mass production of Robo-Taxi within 2 years?

Musk's goal is to start the mass production of Robo-Taxi by 2024. However, products applied with L4 intelligent driving technologies worldwide are mostly in the stage of small-batch verification at present. The possibility to realize commercialization is even much less.

Different from most of the emerging Chassis-By-Wire technology companies, DECO has been deeply engaged in EPS industry for decades, delivering more than 1.6 million products to the market.

In the early stage of R&D, the goal of DECO is to achieve the mass production of vehicle-level Steer-By-Wire. From the parts selection to the process design, the requirements of economy and quality consistency are fully considered, to realize the “soft landing” of the Steer-By-Wire production from drawing design to mass production.

Autonomous driving

Therefore, as long as the laws allow Robo-Taxi to drive on the public road, DECO is able to respond to the mass production requirements of the auto makers without delay.

Supported by Sino-US laws & regulations,

the landing process of autonomous driving would be sped up

In March 2022, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened the door for the requirement that autonomous driving vehicles had to operate with manual controls. Good things come in pairs. China also released positive news, issuing green license for autonomous vehicles

It means that in the near future, autonomous driving technology will no longer be limited to closed scenarios, but legally operating on the public road.

The trillion-dollar incremental market of autonomous driving vehicles is coming.

Pioneers who develop and manufacture the relevant vehicles around the world will reap the first dividends in the development of autonomous driving era.
